Plant City

Plant City is the one place we cover that is an actual incorporated city, with its own commission, police department and downtown. It sits at the eastern edge of Hillsborough County, and it is the only community out here with a real Main Street.

Strawberries

The Florida Strawberry Festival is the biggest thing that happens in east county all year, and it reorganizes traffic, school schedules and everyone’s calendar for eleven days. Plant City grows a large share of the country’s winter strawberries, and the agriculture is not decorative. It is still the economy.

Downtown

Historic downtown Plant City has been coming back for a decade now: restaurants, a brewery scene, the train depot and the McCall Park events. It is worth the drive from Brandon even when the festival is not on.
