How to Choose a Plumber in Brandon, FL
Check the license, get it in writing, and find the leak before anyone starts cutting drywall. Plus the licensed Brandon plumbing company we partner with.

Why this matters in east Hillsborough
Most of us only go looking for a plumber when something is already wrong: a water heater that quit, a kitchen drain that will not move, a water spot spreading across a ceiling. That is the worst time to be picking someone, because you will take whoever answers first.
Brandon, Valrico and Riverview are full of homes that have been through a few water heaters and a lot of summer storms. A few minutes of checking now makes the next emergency a lot less expensive and a lot less stressful.
1. Get the license number and look it up
Plumbing contractors in Florida are licensed by the state. Ask any company for its license number, then search it on the Florida DBPR site at myfloridalicense.com. You want to see an active license in the company's or owner's name. A company that is proud of its license will usually print the number right on its site and its trucks.
2. Know where your shutoff is before you call
Before you need a plumber, find your main water shutoff and make sure it turns. When a supply line bursts, shutting the water off yourself in the first minute matters more than how fast anyone arrives. If the shutoff is stuck or you cannot find it, that is a good small job to have a plumber handle on a calm day.
3. Ask how they will find the leak
A good plumber finds the source before opening walls or floors. Ask how they will locate it and what they expect to cut, if anything. Water travels along pipes and framing, so the stain is not always where the leak is. You want someone who can explain what they found and show you.
4. Get the quote in writing
The quote should name the work, the parts and the price. For a water heater, that means the type and size of the unit and whether removing the old one is included. For a repipe, it means which lines are being replaced and what happens to the drywall afterward. Written scope prevents the argument later.
If you are getting more than one quote, make sure each one covers the same work. A lower number that leaves out haul away, permits or patching is not actually lower. Ask each company what is not included, and ask who pulls the permit if the job needs one.
5. Think about what happens after the plumber leaves
If a leak has been running for a while, fixing the pipe is only half of it. Wet drywall, cabinets and subfloor can hold moisture long after the drip stops. Ask the plumber what they saw and whether the area needs drying. It helps to already know who you would call for that part.

Questions people ask
How do I check a plumber's license in Florida?
Ask for the license number, then look it up on the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation license search at myfloridalicense.com. It shows whether the license is active and whose name it is under.
What should I do first when I find a leak?
Shut off the water at the fixture or at the main, turn off power to anything the water is reaching, take photos, and then call a plumber. Knowing where your main shutoff is before you need it saves a lot of water.
What should I ask a plumber before hiring them in Brandon?
Ask for the license number, a written quote that names the work and the parts, how they will find the source of a leak, and who to call if the problem comes back.
When does a house need repiping instead of a repair?
That is a question for a licensed plumber who has seen your pipes. Repeated leaks in different spots, low pressure or discolored water are reasons to ask about it. Get the reasoning and the scope in writing before you decide.
