How to Plan a Bowling Birthday Party in Riverview, FL

Bumpers, ramps, glow bowling, pizza timing and a room to open presents in. How to plan a kids bowling party on the SouthShore side, plus the Riverview bowling center we partner with.

Why this matters on the SouthShore side

Riverview, Apollo Beach, Ruskin and Wimauma are full of young families, which means a lot of birthday parties. Backyard parties fight the heat and the afternoon storms. Parks fill up. A bowling party is indoors, air conditioned and easy on the host, as long as you plan a few things ahead.

Here is what we would ask before booking.

1. Ask about bumpers and ramps for little kids

Nothing ends a five year old's party faster than six gutter balls in a row. Ask whether the center has bumpers and ball ramps, and whether the bumpers can be set per bowler so older kids and adults can play without them.

2. Match lanes to your guest list

Kids get restless waiting for a turn. Give the center your guest count and ask how many lanes they suggest. Fewer kids per lane keeps the game moving and the complaining down.

3. Ask about glow bowling

Cosmic or glow bowling turns the lights down and the lanes into a light show. For a lot of kids, that is the whole party. Ask when it runs and whether your party can include it.

4. Plan the food around the bowling

Ask what food the center offers for parties, whether you can bring your own cake, and when food should come out. Most parents find it easier to bowl first and eat after, so nobody is bowling with pizza hands. Ask about allergies on the RSVP so you can plan around them.

5. Ask about a private space

A room of your own gives you somewhere to put presents, cut the cake and sing without shouting over the lanes. Ask whether there is a private room or suite and how long you get it.

6. Have a plan for the arcade

If there is an arcade, the kids will find it. Decide ahead of time whether arcade play is part of the party or a take-home treat, and tell parents so nobody is surprised.

A few small things that help on the day

Remind parents that bowling shoes are worn over socks, so kids in sandals should bring a pair. Ask one other adult to help keep score and keep track of whose turn it is. Bring a bag for presents and a lighter for the candles. Arrive a little early so the birthday kid is not checking in shoes while guests are walking through the door.

And when you send the invitations, put the end time on them. Parents on the SouthShore side often have a drive home, and a clear pickup time keeps the last half hour calm.

Questions people ask

What age is good for a bowling birthday party?

Bowling works for a wide range of ages. For younger kids, ask the center about bumpers and ball ramps so everyone can knock down pins.

How far ahead should I book a bowling birthday party?

Weekend afternoons are popular. Call as soon as you have a date in mind, and have a second date ready in case the first is taken.

What is cosmic or glow bowling?

It is bowling with the lights turned down and glowing lanes, pins and lighting. Kids tend to love it. Ask the center when it runs and whether it can be part of a party.

What should I ask a bowling alley before booking a party?

Ask how many lanes you need for your guest count, how long you get, whether bumpers are available, what food is offered, whether there is a private space, and what you can bring yourself, like a cake.
